An Electro Interstitial Scan showed my depression

UPDATE: Read this article only after the following warning post.

I took part in a very interesting diagnosis method yesterday as part of my treatment by the group I mentioned yesterday, ISM (Immune System Management), which is associated with the CCRG (Canadian Cancer Research Group, the target of much online controversy since, surprise, some of its cancer patients did not survive). Using a fairly new, noninvasive, and reliable technology, the Electro Interstitial Scanner, my entire body was scanned and analyzed for abnormalities within minutes. It was amazing to watch, actually, because all I had to do was place my bare hands and feet on titanium plates, with signals also being drawn from two pads on my forehead, and every organ was scanned and displayed on a computer monitor in front of me.

From this experience, I learned much more about a lot of issues I already knew were affecting my health (so nice to have this confirmed, despite quackwatch warnings – though I appreciate the nature of vigilant concern). Having my health problems expressed in terms of organic chemistry preserves my sanity and hope, for one thing. Please keep this in consideration if you are merely scanning the internet for issues to battle: what ISM is doing is well-grounded scientifically, though its position on the fringes of socially-accepted medicine place it under more than its share of scrutiny.

Anyhow, it was fascinating to have my spinal problems displayed in a different method than the x-rays I’ve had taken so often, expressed in terms of swelling, irritation, and resource concentration rather than bone density and shape. Most interesting of all, however, I was able to visually observe my depression.

The estimation of interstitial cerebral neurotransmitters showed that I am low on serotonin, dopamine, and catecholamines. Before I describe the behavioural consequences of this, I will draw some explanations from Wikipedia on the roles of these specific neurotransmitters:

Dopamine has many functions in the brain, including important roles in behavior and cognitionmotor activity, motivation and reward, inhibition of prolactin production (involved in lactation), sleep, mood, attention, and learning.

In the central nervous system, serotonin plays an important role as a neurotransmitter in the modulation of anger, aggression, body temperature, mood, sleep, sexuality, appetite, and metabolism, as well as stimulating vomiting.[1]

Catecholamines are hormones that are released by the adrenal glands in situations of stress such as psychological stress or low blood sugar levels.[2]

My low levels of dopamine and serotonin result in low or easily varying moods (depression), and many of the symptoms that accompany it (sleep problems, aggression, etc.). My abnormal level of catecholamines messes up my fear response; this would largely explain my lack of fear associated with self-harm, suicidal idea, the indifference that led to my car accident, and so on. A really poor combination, in other words. More now:

Shown in research to perform a primary role in the processing and memory of emotional reactions, the amygdalae are considered part of the limbic system.[3]

Another thing this test showed in my brain was that my amygdalae were active beyond belief and were a risk to my health. What this means, basically, is that my fight-or-flight response is on overdrive, constantly activated. However, my frontal lobes, which interpret these signals, showed dampened activity, meaning that I don’t interpret the necessity for fear, judgment, … BAD THINGS. Bad things all around.

I had blood taken today, which will analyze my amino acid levels, and be used to create a customized protein powder that I will ingest once a day, designed to balance my levels for optimal health.

It’s nice to see there is an organic reason for my abnormal (but all too common) mental state…and if there is an organic cause, there is an organic solution. I will keep you up to date with my progress using ISM’s patented organic proteins!

  2. Hi, R.M.

I have a longstanding beef with the Canadian Cancer Research Group(CCRG)and regularly surf the net looking for references. It isn’t often that doing that leaves me rolling on the floor, laughing.
I have a notion that we live in the same town. Tell me as much as you want to.

  3. [...] The Electro Interstitial Scan I discussed in much detail a month ago has been a popular search item, but for every supporter I meet, I encounter a more insistent dissenter. I have no claims to understand the depth of knowledge stemming from biology, chemistry, and physics that permit the functioning of this technology, but I do know this: many of the people in protest have sought it out specifically with the intention of protesting. I will follow up on the issues presented in due time, but I have added the following to my original article as a warning to those who come only in spite, due to a personal offense rather than one committed toward science or medicine itself: [...]

  6. Hi Pat, Have also undertaken the EIS. Had symptoms which were correctly diagnosed. My results were very similar to yours, i.e. an imbalance between my serotonin / melatonin. Have had massive frontal cranial pressure and headaches, The EIS confirmed “frontal intercranial pressure.” I am immensely impressed with the scan. Please provide more info and advice on the protein shake that you refer to, would like to expolore the same avenue. Thanks for sharing your experiance. If you prefer, you can p.m me on frenchm@iwirelessafrica.com Incidently, my wife, who has a massive medical history accompanied by extensive surgery, was also correctly diagnosed. I have absolute confidence in the EIS. It has proven itself to me. Regards Mike

  8. I was offered the EIS when visiting a neurofeedback specialist. He told me he had this new equipment and recommended I looked into it as well as offering me a free go. I was more than skeptical and I told him this. To my amazement the scan acurately picked out specific conditions I knew I had. I don’t know how it works and still exercise caution but I was very surprised. I think the purpose of EIS is to highlight potential problems rather than be a concrete test. I have to say I am more open to it now.

  9. I got involved with the EIS about 2 years ago. My wife and I own The Healing Centre in Mississauga, ON, Canada. I did the due diligence , investigating the scientific basis of the EIS before we purchased one. After two years of use, I am more impressed by this technology than ever. It is based on accepted theory in functional phsyiology and anatomy. It creates the report by statistical interpolation of a database of over 20,000 patients. It then creates a graphical model, colour-coded showing chronic/acute inflamation states. Go to the website http://www.eiscanada.ca under resources tab to get an overview of what the colours really represent. I always invite constructive criticism. Having said that, I believe the true potential in medicine of this tool has not even been realized yet. As for quackwatch, the people that run it and a lot of the articles are just pure slander. There are a lot of quacks and quack tech out there. EIS was developed by an Neuro-physiologist, an MD who is a personal friend of mine. A dedicated, hardworking doctor who is all about the science!
Anyone want to know where the term Quack actually came from? Barrett and crew should look it up. They’d be surprised!!

  11. The EIS is a phenomenal tool for practitioners to have access to! I was introduced to the system a little over one year ago, and I was as skeptical as any when I first saw it. The system is NOT a diagnostic tool like so many seem to believe (and from which misconception I assume most of the negative feedback arises). Instead, the Electro Interstitial Scan measures the conductivity of the body through the interstitial fluid (approximately 16% of your body’s fluid), and through various (scientifically backed and proven) algorithms determines the sodium and potassium levels in the body, and can derive the ATP production within certain organs from this information. The ENTIRE basis of the system is based on hard science, but certain individuals (like Dr. Barrett in Quackwatch) make it out to be a “magical diagnosing box” that tells you what type of cancer you have (and other absurd claims), and therefore misrepresent the device and cause a lot of problems with understanding exactly what it is capable of.

I encourage anyone who is reading through this to browse the manufacturer’s website (www.ldteck.com) to see the information on which the system is based. It is very important to note that the system is NOT used for diagnosing, but is instead intended for use as a monitoring tool that can follow-up the effects of treatments and lifestyle changes BEFORE symptoms have a chance to develop. Therefore it is an adjunct to the current medical procedures and devices out there, but is much less time-consuming, less expensive, and less invasive than almost any of them.

  13. Although I just discovered this dated entry, I thought perhaps it may be appropriate for some input. The Patrick McDougall who claims to have a “long standinf beef” is quite right, he does. As a senior “regulator” and having received and investigated Mr. McDougall’s complaints concerning the Canadian Cancer Research Group, I can say that at best Mr. McDougall complaints are frivolous and vexatious. In fact, there has never been any evidence brought forward by Mr. McDougall that might, in one’s wildest imaginings, be considered a fact other than perhaps his inventive and obsessive compulsive behavior.

God bless those who might be a victim to this man’s craziness.

  14. May I add to the discussion in my capacity as Exclusive Canadian distributor of EIS?

EIS is now, in addition to a Class II medical deivice, registered as a Class III medical device with Health Canada. As such, we have documented “intended use” for monitoring and follow up of Cardiology, Thryroid conditions, and Uni/Bi Polar Depression and as an adjunct for ADHD in children. Do not believe me, but check it for yourself on the CDN government Health Canada website.

EIS provides over 70 physiological values in a three minute non-invasive exam using hardware similar in nature as an EKG together with a sophisticated software solution. This is a great start for any health care practitioner.

..oh and it slices and dices, well actually no it does not. It does what it does, and it does that well. EIS does not replace blood tests, but may help in the doctor determining the most pertinent course of action.

For accurate details, and when investigating EIS please refer only to the manufacturer’s reference sources directly through the corporate website: http://www.ldteck.com.

As for Stephen Barrett. Shame on you! I wonder if he’s even seen an EIS, and if so, I question where? There is a lot disinformation on the web and SB just adds to it. His understanding comes from second or even third-hand sources.

I assure you that I’ve done my due diligence and have over three years of extensive experience with EIS. I whole-heartedly believe Dr. Maareck’s (MD) work to be an incredible boon to medicine. It crosses the barrier between traditional holistic, medicine modalities and allopathic medicine as practiced by the majority of MD’s.

EIS is based on sound and accepted scientific theory of Chemistry, physics, physiology and anatomy. Technologies incorporated in EIS are accepted and used extensively in virtually all hospitals across North America.

Anyone interested in this amazing TECK may contact me through the manufacturer’s website.

    …and get the real story!

  17. I am in Australia, and I have had an EIS scan done for the past month or so. I am 24 and have always been a very calm, focused and relaxed happy person. It all changed when my health declined a year and a bit ago. As well as many physical symptoms, I had new symptoms of blinding anxiety, low ability to concentrate (sometimes couldnt speak properly), and after having that for a year, turned into depression as well. I had the EIS scan for the first time a month ago, and it completely pointed out EVERYTHING I had been feeling, including my already known issues with an inflamed gut.
You would understand how much of a relief it is to have an actual representation of how you’re feeling on the inside, there for everyone to see. My brain functioning was at the lowest possible (my doctor said that most ppl wouldnt be able to talk properly with functioning that low), and my seratonin and oxygen levels to my brain were also extremely low.
The waiver you sign clearly says that it is not a diagnostic tool, rather it is an indicative tool that a qualified doctor can interpret to help you find indications of what’s wrong in your body (and do the appropriate tests after that).
I also have started amino acid suppliments, but my pitfall is in my inflamed gut – i’m not absorbing the nutrients I need, even though my diet is ridiculously healthy. This is what he’s working on now.
I would highly reccommend finding a doctor who uses EIS scanning as one of his (probably many) tools to work out a solution to your mis-working body.

  18. Thank you to all for your contributions to this discussion. The sharing of subjective experiences with EIS is an extremely useful resource for potential users and critics alike. The general consequence of testing thus far seems to be relief in a) seeing an organic (bodily) cause for your symptoms and b) having your pains/discomforts/suspicions confirmed. The worst part is not knowing. Best of luck in finding a diagnosis and undergoing successful treatment – it would be great to hear your updates down the road!

    Comment by nadzb21 | February 27, 2010

  19. Just a small update. Actually it’s quite significant. The original EIS technology has some significant enhancements. The EIS has been replaced by the ES Teck. The ES Teck has added HRV and Oxymetry to the original ESG and BIA to create an even better cross-analysis tool for doctors. There are no extrapolations, clinical context is not as important anymore as all measurements are TRUE measurements, no assumptions are made. It is now a Health Canada registered Class 3 medical device in Canada as of August ’09 with intended medical use for the treatment of cardiac issues, thyroid issues, uni-polar depression and as an adjunct for the treatment of ADD/ADHD in children.
Further studies are being performed. Keep yours ears on for some exciting news later this year. For detailed information please only refer to the manufacturer’s website for official claims, studies, data and information.

  22. Hi. . . .
I’m the guy who rolled on the floor laughing over your description of an Electro Interstitial exam. That was way back in September of 2008. You’ll remember that my comment got a lot of attention including at least one slam from someone at the CCRG/ISM where you got the exam.
My comment was sincere: I honestly thought you were mocking the whole process in a very humorous way. I didn’t mean to upset you and I’m sorry.
As for the CCRG/ISM crowd, it is even less qualified to ‘diagnose’ than it was in 2008 when it still had a registered MD working there. He left shortly after the CCRG/ISM was exposed as a Tijuana-style “cancer clinic” on nationwide TV. Early this year, he was disciplined by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario for malpractice while he was Bill’s “Medical Director” and ordered never to work for the CCRG/ISM again. The CCRG/ISM’s current “Medical Director” isn’t licensed to practice or teach medicine in Ontario or anywhere on this continent.
That glitzy machine has its work cut out for it.

Comment by Pat McDougall | November 11, 2010

  23. Oops!
Checked my files and discovered that the doctor was long gone from the CCRG/ISM by 2008. The W-Five program ran in late January, 2006 and the doctor left Bill shortly after that. Sorry.

  24. It’s simply amazing…really!

ONLY doctors, and that includes as far as I know, ONLY MD’s, Chiropractors – DC’s, and dentists are allowed to diagnose. PERIOD.
LD Technology is an awesome measurement tool that is registered as a Class III medical devise with specified intended use for doctors. It does not diagnose or treat. It simply measures, takes the measurements and does a cross-analysis using BIA, HRV, SPO2 and EIS. Thats it, no more.

Steven Barrett, who is just just a schill for other interests is not an MD (couldn’t cut the mustard from what I understand). Yet is always willing to give his 2 cents worth on technology he is not even personally familiar with or has had any experience with. He states it does not do what the manufacturer states. OK… show me how it does not.
No response…. and does he update his FALSE information – NO of course not. What a low life.
On a positive note, the ESteck system is just getting better and better, both in product and support. Kudos to the manufacturer for the dedication they show to a groundbreaking technology which is sure to help people in many ways.

  25. I have bn v ill for ovr 20yrs. Aftr many visits to Drs, with v little help, I went for this scan EIS at a pharmacist nr us who had bn trained in USA. Within 3mins evry organ & gland in my body was shown in 3-D. All my organs & many glands were not function’g well. I had v low DHEA, dopamine, serotinin, adrenal fatigue, kidney, liver, heart, & lung problems. All my lypmh nodes, thyroid, parathyroids, were not gd. I had pulmonary edema w my lungs a third full of fluids (i had bn coughing up blood & had breath’g difficulties for a long time which the Drs here did not pick up abt all these conditions i had). I had many vitamin deficiences (after i had bn told by my diabetic surgeon here in South Africa, not to bother taking any vitamin supplements that they would not help!). The pharmacist & his wife put me on natural meds & vitamins. 5 weeks later, for the first time in 20yrs, I was 90% better, I could breathe deeply, I felt so much healthier & my moods were brighter too. I could think more clearly & had better memory, & the depression was gone, so were the v servere & debilitating hdaches, & severe fatigue. I stopped coughing up phelgm & blood (which was quite scary as there was a new strain of TB here w no cure, & som ppl were being placed in isolation.I thought i had that). I nw go for a regular check on this EIS, kp updated with vitamins & othr natural meds. I told the pharmacist that he is my 2nd Dr & I have more confidence in the EIS then all the 20 or so yrs of tests upon tests, scans and examinations that were not helping me at all and was costing us a fortune! My husband & I tell everyone we meet abt the EIS & hw it has helped me regain my health. Some of those ppl go & make apptmnts & some are not quite sure, but NO-ONE can tell me its nonesense & does not wrk, my life has bn given back to me thru this scan and I have seen the great results on friends and family. Those who are against it are either ignorant of hw it wrks, or dont want it taking money away frm their Drs practices (as many Drs & Specialists here dont want it in the country as they want their patients to kp paying lots for their tests etc..), or the proffessional person who has done the scan does not have enough knowledge or training to use it properly!), but whatever the reason i am a very happy & relieved & thkful human being to be alive today bcuz of this scan.

  28. My husband, my daughter and I all had the IES scan this winter in Florida. It was administered by a certified nutritionist who made no claims that he was either a medical doctor or that the scan provided a medical diagnosis. The machine accurately identified all the health issues that Western medicine had identified in my husband and daughter-from diabetes to kidney disease to colitis. What was most surprising was that it showed that my own kidneys were seriously inflammed, probably because my body was dehydrated, and that I had undiagnosed problems in my intestinal system that warranted attention. Much of the inflammation in my body was due to spinal subluxations that could be addressed through chiropractic care or poor diet. The nutritionist did follow-up tests to deteermine whether we had any food sensitivities and whether changes in our diet and/or organic supplements could help. It’s only been a month since we were tested and started a strict dietary regimen, but my husband has already been able to get off several of his medicines and both his blood pressure and his blood sugar are now at normal (actually ideal) levels. Those who call this machine quackery should rather question why the medical community is not investing millions of dollars in research to validate its efficacy and get it on the list of approved U.S. medical devices. It’s an invaluable resource for health care professionals, and it is inexpensive and non-invasive. Me thinks those who oppose it protest too much. Are they worried about losing their high-priced fees for X-rays, Cat-Scans, Colonoscopies and other far more expensive tests? What are they really afraid of? I cannot believe that there is so much resistance to this potentially life-saving early warning sysstem.
